When to Call the Doctor
Your doctor will want to be informed if you notice any of the following symptoms:
- Purpura - bruises with no known trauma
- Petechiae - tiny red dots under the skin
- Prolonged nosebleeds
- Prolonged bleeding in the mouth or gums
- Blood in the vomit, urine, or stool
- Repeated vomiting or any other unusual behavior or illness 1
Call your doctor immediately in the event of a head injury or serious accident, since low platelet counts can lead to serious bleeding in these situations.
