Fatigue

Fatigue isn't officially recognized as a complication of ITP or its therapies. But many ITP patients report feeling an overwhelming and persistent tiredness. Your spouse, children, co-workers, and family need to understand that rest may be part of your coping process.

Plan specific times in your day when you can rest. Don’t use this time to make phone calls or catch up on emails – devote this time to relaxation and recuperation.

Additional steps can help you rest more effectively. For instance, eat a healthy diet and avoid alcohol before bedtime.1 Try to reduce your stress throughout the day, especially workplace tension.

The National Institutes of Health features the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research where you can learn more about healthy sleep behavior. Other resources like the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins offer helpful articles on fatigue and health.
