WinRho® SDF

Baxter is proud to be the US distributor for WinRho® SDF [Rho(D) Immune Globulin Intravenous (Human)] – the first Anti-D immunoglobulin treatment approved for ITP.

How WinRho® SDF Works

WinRho® SDF is a concentration of antibodies that specifically bind to Rh-positive red blood cells. “Rh” refers to a particular protein on the outside of the red blood cell. If your red blood cells have this protein, your blood type is “Rh-positive”; if they don’t, your blood type is “Rh-negative”. About 85% of the population is Rh-positive.

When administered to an Rh-positive patient, WinRho® SDF is thought to coat the Rh-positive red cells, causing their destruction by the spleen, thereby preventing the destruction of platelets. This results in increased levels of circulating platelets and an alleviation of the symptoms of ITP.

Indications and Usage

WinRho® SDF must be administered via the intravenous route when used in clinical situations requiring an increase in platelet count to prevent excessive hemorrhage in the treatment of non-splenectomized, Rho(D)-positive:

  • children with chronic or acute ITP,
  • adults with chronic ITP, or
  • children and adults with ITP secondary to HIV infection

The safety and efficacy of WinRho® SDF have not been evaluated in clinical trials for patients with non-ITP causes of thrombocytopenia or in previously splenectomized patients or in patients who are Rho(D)-negative.

For use in the treatment of ITP, do not use WinRho® in:

  • patients with known anaphylactic or severe hypersensitivity responses to human immune globulin products
  • patients with autoimmune hemolytic anemia
  • patients with pre-existing hemolysis or in patients at high risk for hemolysis
  • patients who are IgA deficient with antibodies against IgA

Please see the Important Risk Information for WinRho® SDF for more detailed risk information and the Prescribing Information for full prescribing details.
